The movie picks up where the first film left off, with John Wick (Reeves) retiring from his hitman life. However, he's forced back into the game when he's visited by Santino D'Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio), an old associate who wants John to pay a debt. Santino wants John to take out his sister, Gianna (Claudia Gerini), who's trying to take over the seat at the High Table, a council of crime lords.
The film features impressive action sequences, with Reeves performing many of his own stunts. The movie's fight choreography is inventive and intense, making it a treat for fans of the action genre. The cast is also noteworthy, with Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, and Ruby Rose reprising their roles from the first film.
